30th June 2017 Newsletter

Hello All,

Sports day had to be postponed due to all the rain which made the grass too slippery and damp to run or sit on. The communication links of the postponement worked really well. Hopefully 12th July which was the other date we had in the diary for the event, will prove to be dry and accessible for the sports.

Year 6 got back from their residential safe and sound last Friday evening. They all had a great time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for representing the school so well . I would also like to thank the 4 teachers Miss Ahern, Miss Smart, Miss Ryan and Miss King who accompanied the children to look after them and keep them safe. Being on a residential with 11 year olds is very demanding, it really is “in loco Parentis”, the teacher is on call 24/7. I was very pleased with the enthusiasm of the staff– they returned exhausted but with happy memories.

Next week is Geography Week– the last of our many themed weeks! The children have already been asked to make a 3D model of a famous landmark– I’ve seen some of these already– they are most impressive. Each class will take a country and look at it in some depth– there will be cooking, researching different cultures, atlas work, coverage of Geography skills etc. As we always say if you can help in any way please do– just pop into the school office and leave your name.

We are also having Road Safety work as well being covered delivered by the Safer Journeys Team for the infants and the juniors looking at being safe whilst walking on the road with some support for year 6 children who may well be walking to their Secondary schools for the first time this September.

Have a great weekend. Apparently the weather becomes more seasonal.

Mrs Katharine Sexton
